In Spring 2018, NYI will turn its focus from startups and corporates to small and medium-sized companies for the first FutureA summit in NYC. All levels of industry are now facing unprecedented challenges and it is the SMEs that are most at risk. On Nov 7, 2017, it was reported that 21 Century Fox has been holding talks with Disney to sell most of its business because of its inability to scale in the future of a dramatically changing industry. The media sector has been a leader in the digital transition and there are learnings to be made from it. New York City is the global leader in many industries and the window into the future. NYI is inviting associations across sectors to develop a strategy to manage the digital transition in NYC. We will host a series of roundtable discussions with participants and US industry experts on a number of crucial topics such as data management, investments, regulation, HR and people management, and strategic collaboration. The foundation of our discussions will be four assumptions NYI has made based on our experiences and insights:
- Innovation Acceleration: the speed of innovation has accelerated quickly across all industries and there are no signs of it slowing down
- Strength in Numbers: by developing partnerships, industry leaders can gain functional knowledge and expertise and apply it to a strategy
- Digital Opportunities: future growth will have a digital element and the “winner takes all” mentality will dominate
- Functional Collaboration: Strategic partnerships between non-competing partners can protect against threats and reduce costs of transition.
FutureA will be held from March 6-8 2018 in NYC and conveniently leads to SXSW in Austin on March 9.
